For my scratch-board project, I decided to go for a realistic looking lion. I used hatching and stippling to give my lion more shading so it could bring it to life. For darker areas I decided to ease of a bit with the tool so there wouldn't be so much white showing through while still showing some highlights. This was inspired by the new lion king movie coming out soon and it just brings back so many memories for me. My family and I would just watch the cartoon movie for hours on end because I had nothing else to do. My goal was to make this look realistic why still maintaining the ferocious look in the lion's face and I believe I nailed that. This is definitely the result I was looking for and I am extremely happy with the outcome of the piece.
My shoes are meant to represent a Greek vase that is a bit modernized. I decided to go for a yellow, blue, red, and green color scheme. On one shoe, you have Zues and on the other, you have a Pegasus. Both are outlined in blue to separate them from the rest of the piece. I used sharpie to create a permanent mark on the unconventional surface. This medium was used to my advantage because the colors blended very easily. As I stated before, I tried to go for the idea of Greek mythology. I used the colors to show a bright and happy memory of mine. When I was in elementary school, I used to be intrigued with the Greek gods and mythical creatures. Creating this brings back good memories. I tried to go for a simplified look yet, express my idea and I think I nailed it. Overall, I enjoyed creating this and I got my idea across.
